Babies R Us

After church, we stopped by Babies R Us to start a baby registry. We were there for about 2 hours and looked at stroller-car seat combos, cribs, changing tables, and gliders. We also got a list of recommended registry items, and boy is it long! With the help of experienced family and friends, we would love to narrow down that list to the necessities. How many outfits does he need? Of what size? How many bottles? Does he need 4 oz and 9 oz bottles? Did I read that right?

SO OVERWHELMING! It was much easier registering for our wedding because we knew what we needed/wanted. But as first time parents, I don't want to buy too much or too little...

Anyways, I liked that pattern on this stroller-car seat combo (aka travel system stroller) by Graco. It's grey and yellow, which is gender neutral. What's good about it is the handle on the stroller "flips" to the other side, so you can either face your baby while strolling, or your baby can face the world. A cool feature, but not necessary. What's bad about it is the stroller is hard to fold up. It's not a nice smooth motion, but rather jerky. No wonder kids can get their fingers hurt - you don't know when the stroller's going to snap into folded position. So, this one is out.

The other one we liked is also by Graco, except it only came in pink (boo!) and some other pattern I didn't care for. The system below is a bit bulkier than the one above, but we think sturdier also. It's also much easier to fold up - nice and smooth motion. If only it came in a pattern that I liked.

In an ideal world I'd have the second stroller in the first pattern. But it's not ideal, so maybe I will just have to settle. We, of course, have many other stores/websites to check out before deciding on a stroller. And no, we definitely won't buy the pink stroller for our boy.

  1. Personally I HATE travel system strollers like Graco b/c they are bulky and useless.

Depending upon your lifestyle and what you want to use a stroller for, I have a ton of suggestions.

We used a Snap n Go for Lily when she was really small and then I bought a Maclaren Quest when she turned 4 months to use for the mall and to run errands. Now that we moved to the city, I invested in an Uppa Baby Vista stroller to use for rough pavement and to go over snow and all terrain. And since it came with a bassinet, we'll be able to use it for Baby No. 2 some day. I would suggest you go to Buy Buy Baby in N.J. b/c they have HUGE selection of strollers and they accept the bed bath and beyond 20% off coupons. Facebook me if you have questions.

  2. You should also buy the Baby Bargains book b/c they have product reviews of baby gear based on parent feedback.

  3. you're the guinea pig, no clue about baby products, BUT if anything, I would say skim on the clothes. People always get you clothes even if its not on the registry and they grow out of it so fast, Just super-size everything..lolz!!

  5. i agree w/ helen. skip on the clothes. you'll get tons. lots and lots of newborn, 0-3 months. and i 2nd jenny on buy buy baby. i don't know how the BRUs are in PA but the ones down here have horrible customer service. buy buy baby has more knowledgeable staff. and they take non-expired bed bath and beyond coupons. BUT, if you plan on visiting your sister any time soon, you might want to take a look at Great Beginnings in Gaithersburg, MD. they have top-notch service, have a HUGE showroom... and one of the owners is my neighbor down the street from me so tell him you know me! :)

  6. Cool about the BBB coupons, and don't know if we'll make it down there for our big items, but maybe for little items, we'll check it out :)
